From Stone to Screen: Digital Tools for Epigraphy
Digital Epigraphy training (30/11-2/12/2026): applications now open
On behalf of the organising committee, we would like share the Call for Applications for an upcoming Digital Epigraphy training event in Belgium:
This training event is aimed at PhD students and early-career researchers and will take place in person this autumn, from Monday 30 November to Wednesday 2 December 2026, at Ghent University and KU Leuven, Belgium.
The training programme will cover topics such as text encoding, epigraphic datasets and databases, AI tools, Linked Open Data for epigraphy, and planning the digital component of a digital epigraphy project. The event will be of interest to those working with inscribed materials from the ancient world broadly conceived, with some sessions focusing more specifically on Greek and Roman epigraphy.
The event is free of charge. However, if demand exceeds capacity, the number of participants will be capped. Thanks to funding from DARIAH (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities), we are offering five bursaries to cover travel and accommodation costs for PhD students and early-career researchers coming from abroad who are unable to receive reimbursement from their institutions.
A detailed programme, together with further information on eligibility, bursaries, and the application procedure, can be found on the event webpage: https://poetryinstone.ugent.be/en/events/stone-screen-digital-tools-epigraphy.
The deadline for applications is Thursday 15 October. If a selection needs to be made, selected participants will be notified during the week commencing 19th October 2026.
