I began my studies at the University of Cádiz and completed my degree in Classical Philology at the University of Seville. I returned to the University of Cádiz to pursue my doctorate, where I obtained my PhD in Classics in 1993. At the institution that has always been my alma mater, I teach Greek language and literature and lead the R&D&I Research Project «La Historia como materia poética en la consolidación y desarrollo de la poesía helenística–HISTOPOETIC» (funded by the State Research Agency of the Ministry of Science and Innovation).

I am currently working on the study of prose and poetry from the Hellenistic and Imperial periods. Within the framework of the Project HISTOPOETIC, I focuse on History as poetic subject in the consolidation and development of Hellenistic poetry. I have published a number of papers and book chapters in the main journals and the most important publishers of Classics (HSCP, LEC, ZPE, REG, Euphrosyne, Emerita, Eikasmós, Cuadernos de Filología Clásica (egi), De Gruyter, Peeters, Brill, Gredos, Peter Lang, etc.), but my translation of Philostratus and Aristaenetus’ Epistles (Biblioteca Clásica Gredos, n.º 392) and the critical edition Elegíacos helenísticos (Alma Mater Series of Greek and Latin Classics, CSIC) should be particularly highlighted.
